Promoting Your Web Site

If you think Search Engines are the only way to promote your site you might want to rethink your strategy. Statistics still show that most people coming to a web site are typing in the address directly. The marketing rule that it is easier to sell an existing customer than obtain a new one rings true in the case of web site design. Your Web site promotion strategy must include customer retention and customer acquisition using both on-line and off-line techniques. The offline techniques that will get your site noticed consists of many of the standard marketing tools you may have used in the past. Examine the list below for some good ideas to promote your site. Keep your site updated as often as possible so that people who come to your site see that the information is current and that it is worthy of a return visit. If you have ever been to a site where the content stayed the same you probably were not in a hurry to go back. An informative, current, easy to use site will inevitably get return visitors.

Don't forget good old fashioned word of mouth. You are your best asset. Tell everyone you know every chance you get. If you own a brick and mortar store then have a grand opening celebration at your store location for your web site. Give away promotional items such as coffee mugs, mouse pads, ink pens, key chains or scratch pads, all with your company web site address. Contact your local Chamber of Commerce they are always glad to help local business'.
Getting linked to other web sites is a great way to improve your chances with the Search Engines. As the web crawlers are out scanning someone's site they follow the links and then find your site. If you know of other on-line business that would be willing to link to your site return the favor by adding a link to their site on yours. Reciprocal links are great. They work on the adage "You scratch my back and I'll scratch yours". They are definitely a win win situation.
